Membership

Love of country was the purpose of our ancestors fight for freedom and the bond that unites us today. Membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution honors and preserves that legacy left to us by our patriot ancestors.

All DAR members are members of local chapters or Members-At-Large, their state societies, and the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

Eligibility

Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal, bloodline descent from a patriot, either male or female, who aided in the cause of American Independence through military, civil or patriotic service, provided she is personally acceptable to the society. She must provide documentation for each statement of birth, marriage and death for each generation, from herself up to and including her patriot, as well as the American Revolutionary War service of her ancestor. Find out more about what qualifies you to be a member here.

Application Process

Is there an American Revolutionary patriot in your family tree but don't know where to start? If the Jersey Blue Chapter NSDAR is the right fit for you, contact us. You'll hear from our chapter registrar or another chapter representative, who will ask you a few questions about your lineage, guide you through the application process and review with you each proof source for birth, marriage and death, in addition to your ancestor's patriotic service. Ultimately, you are responsible for obtaining the documents needed for your application, however, our registrar or a volunteer can assist you with locating exactly what is needed.

Steps to becoming a member include:
  • tracing your family lineage
  • identifying your patriot ancestor
  • contacting the Jersey Blue Chapter NSDAR
  • collecting your research
  • completing the application process

By completing the application process you will discover what countless other DAR members have discovered: the thrill of finding out how their ancestor helped to achieve American Independence and a deeper appreciation of how what they did impacts our way of life today.
